BEYOND THE SEA
coastal / marine landscapes

From his apartment overlooking the North Sea in Cadzand, Conrad van Tiggelen observes the endless movement of sea, sky and light. Fog, storms, changing tides and shifting horizons shape a landscape that is never the same twice.
The works move between abstraction and atmosphere, capturing quiet moments of transition: from pale grey mornings to deep midnight blues, from calm waters to approaching storms.
Rather than depicting the sea directly, the series reflects on the experience of looking — at distance, weather, silence and time.
For some works, Van Tiggelen uses reclaimed wooden panels, referring to driftwood washed ashore by the sea. The reused materials connect the changing coastal landscape with his ongoing interest in transformation and traces left behind by movement and erosion.
